Reprogramming Your Habits and Lifestyle

For better or for worse, we all have habits and lifestyle choices that make us who we are. Some of the most challenging decisions we make involve what we choose to eat. It's time to make some changes. Don't worry, it won't be painful or drastic and it doesn't have to happen all at once; remember, YOU ARE IN CONTROL.

One of the first and simplest behavior modifications you can make is getting into the habit of reading nutrition labels. There are different things to look out for depending on your individual health needs. We are getting all the nutrition we need each day from the Cambridge products so, for the purpose of this article, we are only going to check for calories.

NUTRITION LABELS CAN BE VERY DECEIVING. What is advertised on the front of most packaged foods only lists the information for ONE SERVING. Always check the full nutrition label on the back or side of the package to see how many servings the packaged or bottle contains.

MANY SERVING SIZES ARE UNREALISTIC - for example: an average size 10 3/4 oz. can of Campbell's Tomato Soup is considered to be 2.5 1/2 cup servings. Do you only eat 1/2 cup of soup from that can?

So even though it says only 90 calories you need to multiply that by 2.5 servings to get an accurate total 225 calories per can. You also need to multiply all the other nutrition numbers by 2.5 to get an accurate total of what you're about to put in your body. This is especially important if you are monitoring your carbs, sugar or sodium intake as well.

This is just one example of something I found in my pantry but sadly even many "healthy" foods are just as deceptive so do your research and READ YOUR LABELS. It takes time to find the best brands and options by reading the labels at first, but once you do it, you never need to worry about those foods again. Just keep buying the best brand that works for you.

The video below briefly lists a few other things you can slowly introduce into your lifestyle to make positive changes. To your health!
